Working hard or hardly working?

Many people in the x and y generations are at two points.

Either they did not pursue higher education, and have worked since high school until now; or they have pursued some type of higher education in hopes of advancing, and holding a stable/ desired paying job. However, both groups are suffering. Because of the current economic conditions, the first group are the people that are most likely to be laid off first, due to the fact they have been working there the least amount of time. Additionally, they are viewed as those who have less dependents and flexible in finding a new job, even if that is not true.

The second group. The educated portion, has come across similar experiences. Even though they are well educated, they are still viewed as flexible and so forth. These are the ones who need that good first job that will jump their careers, but those jobs are being closed down. So even those who have the most viable educations, such as finance, accounting, engineering, and so forth are struggling as well.

So what are we to do? The student loans have to paid off. The rent will become due. Even if have always been saver since the first day you worked, how long will the savings buffer last?

The best advice I have currently is to work whenever you can work. Get as many experiences under your belt as you can. Make your self more valuable. In the Great Depression about 25 % of the people did not have work. Which means there was still 75% that had jobs. As much as the x and y generations are used to things coming easy. It WILL not be the case anymore. Get your butts in gear. Suck it up, and do what you need to. You will have to suffer, but as your grandparents/ great-grandparent did. Yes, this is time where you remember all those stories they told you about the farms, and the great depression.
